Identity Crisis: Rediscovering Who You Are in Christ

Updated: Apr 23

We are living in a time where identity is being questioned, redefined, and even erased. In a world filled with noise, labels, and pressure to conform, the question “Who am I, really?” has never felt more urgent.

This past Sunday at RIG DFW, Apostle John continued the powerful Imago Dei series with a timely and transformational message titled “Identity Crisis.” Drawing from Genesis 1:26–27 and 2 Corinthians 3:16–18, he reminded us of a profound truth: our identity is not found in the culture, our past, or people’s opinions—it’s found in the image of God.

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…’” — Genesis 1:26 “But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away… And we all… are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory.” — 2 Corinthians 3:16,18

The Problem Isn't Weakness—It's Disconnection

Apostle John taught that many of us aren’t struggling because we’re weak, lazy, or unworthy—we’re struggling because we’re disconnected from truth. We’ve allowed trauma, fear, rejection, and the world’s opinions to veil our eyes and distort our reflection.

He said, “You can’t reflect what you haven’t first beheld.” In other words, until we see God clearly, we won’t be able to see ourselves clearly.

The result? An identity crisis.

We try to perform, compare, and conform. We settle for false names. We live muted, buried, and unsure of who we are. But the Bible is clear—when we turn to the Lord, the veil is lifted, and we begin to be transformed, not by force but by beholding His glory.

The Image You Were Made For

This series isn’t about religion. It’s about restoration. It’s not about acting holy. It’s about being made whole. You were created to reflect the nature, authority, creativity, and beauty of God Himself.

Imago Dei is more than a Latin phrase—it’s a call back to who you really are.

What If You’re Not Broken—Just Misaligned?

What if the real issue isn’t that you’re too far gone… but that you’ve been looking in the wrong mirror?

As Apostle John shared, God is bringing us back into alignment. Not with what the world has called us. Not with the fear we’ve adopted. But with the original blueprint spoken over us before we were even born.

“God doesn’t just redeem your past—He restores your reflection.”
